Ecoverse is a plug-in that allows customers to shop sustainably products in the moment. Along with this, our team also created an advertisement used “shock value” and hints of extreme futurism to promote the use of the plug-in. This project aims to show how persuasive methods can encourage users to take actions they wouldn’t normally consider.

Background

How do use persuasive topics to influences users to use a certain technology or embrace a social concept?

As a class project, our project was focused on iteratively designing, testing, and producing a working demo-ready prototype of a novel persuasive technology. While developing this, we made sure our design was deeply informed by theory and prior research on persuasive/social influence.

In the end, our concept was formalized into a research paper, blog post, and advertisement.

Discovery

Ideation Phase

Our team was focused on the concept of sustainability for the future. Initially, we decided to diversify during our ideation phase because our topic was very general.

How can we change behaviors around energy consumption? → Will reducing carbon emissions change how narrative transportation functions? What potential future will arise from it?

We started by brainstorming 30 one-sentence ideas. By doing this, we could gain some clarity on what sustainable options there were and see where persuasive topics can have the biggest effect.
